Former Chhattigarh Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Friday hit out at the Modi government for targeting opposition leaders in the country amid Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids at his residence.
The federal probe agency conducted fresh searches at Baghel's home in Bhilai town of Durg district as part of an alleged liquor scam linked to a money laundering investigation against his son Chaitanya.
"The ED had come in the past as well. It found Rs 33 lakh in my house. Now they have come again ... We will fully cooperate as we believe in democracy and judiciary. They (BJP) are misusing the agency, but we will cooperate with them," the Congress leader said.
Sharpening his attack against the Modi government, Baghel said, "A matter related to Adani has come up. To make him happy, PM Modi & HM Amit Shah have sent ED to my residence. We will not be scared," he said.
"Bhupesh Baghel na tootega na jhukega. We will not bow down before them. They are targeting all opposition leaders in the country," the former Chhattisgarh CM added.
Earlier, Baghel took to X to confirm the raids saying "ED aa gayi". "The ED came to his home on the last day of the assembly session when the issue of trees being felled for a coal mine project of the Adani group in Tamnar tehsil of Raigarh district was to be raised," his post read.
