International Tech Park Bangalore (ITPB) on January 16 inaugurated ‘ITPB Metro Skywalk’, directly connecting Pattandur Agrahara Metro Station on Purple Line with ITPB and Park Square Mall in Whitefield.

The elevated walkway is expected to benefit around 55,000 professionals working at ITPB and also save commuting time for daily metro users by enabling seamless movement between Metro services, office spaces and retail areas.

The skywalk was jointly inaugurated by Gauri Shankar Nagabhushanam, CEO, CapitaLand India Trust, and Subramanya Gudge, Director (Project & Planning), Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

Speaking at the inauguration, Gudge said Bengaluru Metro has been steadily working to improve pedestrian connectivity with major commercial hubs. “The first such initiative was undertaken in 2017 when Mantri Square was connected to Sampige Road Metro station. This was followed by connectivity to Infosys campus on Electronics City line. We are now developing a large-scale connection between Bosch and Lakkasandra underground Metro station, and several similar projects are in the pipeline,” he said.

He added that on the upcoming Blue Line connecting Central Silk Board and Kempegowda International Airport, private developers are also coming forward to create integrated access points. “Such initiatives ensure safe and reliable access to Metro services for IT park employees and visitors, while improving overall urban mobility,” Gudge said.

According to an official statement, ITPB Metro Skywalk is 320 feet long and elevated 24 feet above the road, ensuring uninterrupted pedestrian movement while allowing smooth vehicular traffic below. Constructed using durable structural steel and concrete, the skywalk is designed to handle high footfall and provides direct access from the metro station to Park Square Mall and the ITPB campus, eliminating the need for commuters to cross busy roads.

The skywalk incorporates energy-efficient LED lighting and eco-friendly materials. It also includes accessibility features such as wide walkways, smooth ramps and elevators, making it convenient for all users, including those with mobility challenges, it adds.
