Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna on February 17 said that Bengaluru’s Yelahanka will get a mega railway terminal at a cost of Rs 5,754 crore, which he described as India’s largest terminal.
On December 23, 2025, Moneycontrol carried a report titled ‘Bengaluru’s Yelahanka may get China-style elevated railway terminal’.
The report stated that Bengaluru’s fourth railway terminal - and India’s first fully elevated coaching terminal - may come up partially on Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) land in Yelahanka at an estimated cost of Rs 6,000 crore. The project is likely to be taken up under a public-private partnership (PPP) or Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) model.

“A mega coaching terminal will be built in Yelahanka at a cost of Rs 5,754 crore, which will be India’s largest terminal. The project was initially proposed at Devanahalli near Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). However, on June 5, 2025, it was decided that Devanahalli was unsuitable due to its distance from the city and other factors, and the project was shifted to Yelahanka. Railway Board has approved the Final Location Survey (FLS) for the Yelahanka terminal,” Somanna said while speaking to reporters at Nayandahalli railway station in Bengaluru.
The terminal is planned over about 20 acres and may have 16 platforms. Of this, around 15 acres will be taken from the total 192 acres of RWF land, along with about two acres of private land, in addition to the existing Yelahanka station yard and RWF staff quarters. The current Yelahanka station has five platforms. The proposed terminal is likely to include 10 stabling lines and 15 pit lines.
Somanna also said that the master plan to redevelop Krantiveer Sangolli Rayanna Bengaluru City railway station under the PPP model at a cost of Rs 1,370 crore is under approval. “Works are in progress for the modernisation of Yeswantpur and Bengaluru Cantonment railway stations at a cost of Rs 485-500 crore each,” he said.
“The quadrupling of the railway line from Whitefield to Bengaluru Cantonment will be completed soon. The DPR for the Tumakuru-Bengaluru quadrupling has already been prepared and submitted to the Cabinet. The DRM has been instructed to conduct a survey for a direct rail link from Whitefield to Kolar,” he added.
He further said that the new railway overbridge (No. 431) between Vijayanagar and Padarayanapura, constructed at a cost of Rs 14.1 crore, will benefit residents of Goripalya, Vijayanagar and nearby areas.
