Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar has said that there is nothing wrong with the aspirations of his supporters to see him elevated to the post of Chief Minister of the state. His statement comes days after he publicly endorsed CM Siddaramaiah’s statement that he will finish his 5-year term.

Shivakumar had put the Karnataka power speculations about the change in leadership to rest when he supported Siddaramaiah’s statement when the CM said he would serve his full term as Chief Minister.

“Yes, I’ll be there for 5 years. Why do you have doubts?" Siddaramaiah had said when asked about the prospects of Shivakumar occupying the post of the CM.

Shivakumar had responded, “What options do I have? I have to stand by him, support him (Siddaramaiah). I don’t have any objection to it. Whatever the party high command says and desires, it will be fulfilled."

Shivakumar’s latest statement now comes following a statement by Rambhapuri seer Sri Rajadeshikendra Shivacharya Swami, who said Shivakumar deserved “a higher position" after the 2023 election. “People of the state are aware of his contribution to the party’s victory," the seer said.

Shivakumar has now said that there is nothing wrong with the aspirations of people wanting him to lead the state. “Workers, seers, and the public have their own desires; I can’t say their aspirations are wrong. We all built this party together; we are its disciplined soldiers. We sit together and follow what the party decides, even Siddaramaiah has said this many times," Shivakumar said as per reports.

The Karnataka Congress unit went through a power buzz as Shivakumar's supporters raised their demand for his elevation, recalling a power-sharing agreement between him and Siddaramaiah. This is in continuity with the speculations about the Karnataka CM post after the 2023 elections when his name was among the top contenders.

Shivakumar said people have shown faith in the Congress and voted for it. “So we must live up to public expectations," adding that the government has designed major programmes for the people and will ensure their implementation.

Shivakumar also discouraged discussion of the such issue “unnecessarily” by the party workers, functionaries, opposition leaders, and the media.
