After facing criticism over its new pick-up rules, Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport has extended the free parking time at Terminal 1 arrivals from December 26.

As part of the revised measures, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which operates the airport, said in a statement that it has increased the free parking duration at Terminal 1 arrival pick-up areas, P3 and P4, from 10 minutes to 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, BIAL said its earlier proposal to allow corporate taxis to pick up passengers from a dedicated fifth lane at Terminal 1 departures, for a fee of Rs 275, will be introduced later.

“The move is aimed at providing greater flexibility to passengers and their families, while helping ease congestion and improving traffic flow at the terminal,” BIAL said.

However, users of Rapido, Namma Yatri, Shoffr, RideAlly and other such services continue to walk over 1 km from Terminal 1 to the P4 pick-up area with their luggage.

“To further ease passenger movement and enhance the arrival experience, passengers can choose between a fleet of shuttles operating every seven minutes, six cars, and 10 battery-operated buggies running to and from the P3 and P4 pick-up areas,” BIAL said, adding that this would ensure convenient, frequent and assisted movement for passengers.

“Building on our commitment to continuously enhancing the passenger experience, we have been consistently taking stock of passenger and stakeholder feedback to further improve the arrival and kerbside pick-up experience at Bengaluru airport,” BIAL added.
