27 to 73,000: Smallest and biggest victory margins in Bihar polls

While several candidates surged ahead comfortably with sizeable margins, others navigated far more precarious contests, with only a few dozen votes determining the outcome.

In a big blow to the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan, the BJP became the single largest party in the Bihar Assembly election for the first time on Friday.

By winning 89 seats, it led the NDA to a landslide win.  Meanwhile, its allies in the NDA also posted strong performances. The Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) seured 85 seats while Union minister Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) won 19 seats. In all, the NDA scored a “double-century”, finishing with 202 seats.

Sandesh: JD(U)’s Radha Charan Sah  won by defeating RJD’s Dipu Singh by a margin of only 27 votes. Sah got 80,598 votes (43.99%), while Singh won 80,571 votes (43.97%).

Ramgarh: BSP leader Satish Kumar Singh Yadav defeated BJP’s Ashok Kumar Singh by a margin of just 30 votes. Yadav polled 72,689 votes (37.29%) and Singh got 72,659 votes (37.29%).

Agiaon: BJP’s Mahesh Paswan defeated CPI(ML)(L)’s Shiv Prakash Ranjan by a margin of only 95 votes. Paswan won 69,412 votes (45.2%) and Ranjan got 69,317 votes (45.14%).

Dhaka: RJD’s Faisal Rahman defeated BJP’s Pawan Kumar Jaiswal by a slim margin of 178 votes. Rahman polled 112,727 votes (45.72%), while Jaiswal got 112,549 votes (45.64%).

Forbesganj: Congress candidate Manoj Bishwas defeated BJP’s Vidya Sagar Keshari by a margin of 221 votes. Bishwas managed to gain 120,114 votes (47.77%), and Keshari got 119,893 votes (47.68%).

Biggest winners

Rupauli: JD(U)’s Kaladhar Prasad Mandal won by a massive margin of 73,572 votes, defeating RJD’s Bima Bharti, who secured 51,254 votes.

Digha: BJP candidate Sanjiv Chaurasia polled over 1.1 lakh votes and won with a commanding margin of 59,079 votes. Divya Gautam (CPI(ML)) managed to win 51,922 votes.

Gopalpur: Shailesh Kumar alias Bulo Mandal of the JD(U) secured 1,08,630 votes, defeating VIP’s Prem Sagar alias Dablu Yadav by 58,135 votes.

Hasanpur: Rajesh Kumar of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) registered a huge win by 58,191 votes, polling 98,875 votes against Janshakti Janata Dal’s Shyam Kishor Chaudhary.

Aurai: BJP candidate Rama Nishad won by a margin of 57,206 votes, polling a total of 1,04,085 votes.
