Right then, that is it from the first Super Four game of the 2025 Asia Cup and it is Bangladesh who have given themselves a wonderful opportunity to make a claim for a spot in the Final. Still, early days in this phase of the competition and up next is take two of the monumental clash that the cricketing world has been waiting for. India face Pakistan here in Dubai on Sunday, 21 September and that game will begin at 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT). But as usual, you can join us a lot sooner for the build-up as well. Till then, take care and goodbye!

The skipper of Bangladesh, Litton Das, says that before the Asia Cup, they played a lot of matches and he feels like they were pretty comfortable in chasing. Also says that they all believed in Saif Hassan and they are really blessed to have a player like him. Ends up saying that now their focus is on the next match and he hopes that they keep their momentum.

The captain of Sri Lanka, Charith Asalanka, says that it was a terrific game where they, as a team, held their nerves till the end but it was not enough. Shares that he is pleased about the batting effort but could have done better in the last two overs. Believes that they were 10-15 runs short. Praises Dasun Shanaka for the way he batted, having been sent at number 5. Mentions that the spirits were high in the camp at the halfway mark as they were aiming 170 at the start of the game and they almost got there.

Saif Hassan wins the Player of the Match. He says that the ball was coming nicely to the bat and he just tried to time his shots. Also says that his skipper, Litton Das, helped him a lot to guide him throughout the inning. He also shares that he feels really happy to contribute to the team. Ends up saying that the preparation was good and they executed their plan properly.

The Presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the game, Litton Das put Sri Lanka into bat, which seemed to have backfired a bit as the Lankan openers got off to a flying start. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis put on 44 runs inside 5 overs before Nissanka got out. Bangladesh then did well to stem the flow of runs after the Powerplay. Sri Lanka kept on losing wickets in the middle overs before finally Dasun Shanaka and Charith Asalanka led the fightback. The former Lankan skipper was in a devastating mood as he hit 6 biggies in his unbeaten knock of 64 off just 37 balls. As for Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman was outstanding, picking up 3 for 20 as Mahedi also contributed with 2 wickets and an economical spell.

Sri Lanka had a perfect record in the initial group stage of the competition and had brushed aside Bangladesh in their previous encounter but will now face an uphill task if they are to qualify for the final. Nuwan Thushara did provide them with the perfect start as well but the early wicket wasn't followed by a sustained spell of pressure. Wanindu Hasaranga did his best to bring his side back into the game in the middle phase with a couple of wickets but again, that fifth bowler was the issue for the Lankans. They had to use Dasun Shanaka extensively and even Kamindu Mendis, who bowled just one over but an expensive one.

Chasing 169 for the win, Bangladesh lost Tanzid Hasan for a duck in the very first over but then came the counter-punch from Saif Hassan. Litton Das provided good support before getting out but Saif carried on and brought up a half-century. He too got out but Bangladesh were carried forward by Tawhid Hridoy, who played the telling knock and he too scored a fifty. With just 10 runs needed for the win, Hridoy got out and failed to take his team over the line but he had done enough. There were a couple of nervy moments in the final over, though.

THE BANGLA TIGERS ROAR! They have taken revenge for that resounding loss in the previous stage of the competition against Sri Lanka and have kick-started the Super Four stage with a crucial win. It seemed to be one of Bangladesh's more clinical wins but there was some drama in the final over. Amidst all the chaos, Shamim Hossain kept his cool and made sure his team didn't fumble it right at the death.

19.5Bangladesh get over the line in a nervy fashion! Shamim Hossain was gone had the throw hit. On a back of a length from around the wicket, outside off. Nasum waits back and taps the ball on its head. Directs it towards the man at gully and he is called through for a single by Hossain. The ball goes straight to the gully fielder, who collects it calmly and has a shy at the batting end but misses. Hossain leaps in delight after completing the winning run.

Nasum Ahmed comes in with Bangladesh still needing a run to win.

19.4OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! A loud shout for caught behind but not given! There was a noise. Dasun Shanaka is convinced and Charith Asalanka takes the review. Hasan starts to walk off as soon as the review is taken. Dasun bends his back and goes short, pushed across the right-hander. Mahedi premeditates as he skips down the track and swings across the line. The ball goes behind and it is taken by the keeper, Kusal Mendis. The UltraEdge shows a spike, confirming the outside edge. A shot that could have been avoided and Mahedi Hasan has paid the price. Shamim throws his bat in anger at the other end. Bangladesh still need 1 run with 2 balls left.

19.3A dot first up to Mahedi! The yorker is nailed, on the off stump. Mahedi hits it firmly but straight to mid off.

Mahedi Hasan is the new batter in.

19.2OUT! TIMBER! Jaker Ali goes for the glory shot and perishes! Dasun switches to around the wicket and bowls the leg-cutter, on a good length, on the off stump. Ali has a swipe across the line. Gets beaten on the inside edge and the ball goes on to hit the off pole.

19.1FOUR! SCORES ARE LEVEL! Dasun Shanaka goes into the surface, over middle. Jaker reads the off-pace delivery and rides the bounce to pull it behind square on the leg side for a boundary.

Just 5 needed off the final over. Bangladesh are overwhelming favorites but we have seen fewer runs being defended in the final over. Dasun Shanaka to bowl it. Can he conjure up a miracle? Let's find out.

18.6Direct hit! On a back of a length, on middle, Shamim climbs into the pull shot and picks the bones out of it. Hits it straight to mid-wicket where the fielder collects it on the bounce. Ali sets off for a run before being sent back. There is a direct hit at the bowling end but Jaker is home by then. Luckily for Sri Lanka, the deflection off the stumps goes straight to the fielder backing up the throw.

18.5Chameera executes the yorker to perfection, on middle, Ali squeezes it out in front of long on for a single.

18.4FOUR! In the gap! Dushmantha Chameera pays the price this time. Dushmantha gets the yorker wrong and it ends up being a full toss, on the pads. Ali brings his wrists into play and whips it to the right of the diving long on fielder for a boundary. Bangladesh require 6 off 8 balls.

Jaker Ali is in next.

18.3OUT! PLUMB IN FRONT! Review taken by Tawhid Hridoy but this looks like a review more in hope than anything else. Chameera attempts the yorker but ends up serving a thigh-high full toss, on middle and leg. Tawhid stays deep in the crease and has a hack across the line. The ball goes past the inside edge and hits Tawhid on the back leg. The UltraEdge shows no bat and it is three reds on Ball Tracking with the ball hitting the leg stump. Hridoy admonishes himself as he won't be there till the end. Sri Lanka have a glimmer of hope. 10 needed off 9 for Bangladesh.

18.2Tight single! Dushmantha Chameera switches to around the wicket and serves a full ball at 141.4 kph, outside off. Hossain cracks the drive but it goes straight to extra cover. Charith Asalanka picks the ball up and has a shy at the bowling end but misses. Shamim gets home with a dive.

18.1Pace on, very full, just outside the off stump. Tawhid goes deep in the crease and whips it to the left of deep mid-wicket. Hridoy is keen on the second run but the fielder in the deep is quick to get to the ball and release the throw. The batters are kept down to a single.

17.6FOUR! Width offered and Shamim Hossain cashes in! Nuwan goes into the wicket and takes pace off. Ends up offering width and this sits up to be hit. Shamim reaches out and thumps it to the right of extra cover for a boundary. 12 runs off the over. Bangladesh need 12 more runs from the final 2 overs.

17.5Bowls the slower one, on a good length, outside off. Hridoy cuts it to deep point and gets to the other end.

17.4At 119 kph, pushed across the left-hander, on a short of a length. Hossain cuts it to deep point for a single. 17 needed off 14 for Bangladesh.

17.3FOUR! Agricultural but effective! Nuwan lands it nice and full, on the off stump. Shamim Hossain clears the front leg and smears it away. Picks the gap between deep mid-wicket and long on for a boundary.

17.2Goes full, almost in the blockhole, on the off pole. Hridoy powers it down to long off for a single.

17.1Off-pace delivery, on a good length, outside off, Shamim punches it to deep point for a single.

16.6Sticks to the ploy of keeping it out of the reach of the batter and the length stays short. Hridoy makes contact this time as he moves towards the off side. Slaps it to the left of deep cover for a brace. Bangladesh need 24 runs from 18 balls.

16.6Half a shout for caught behind but given as wide! Tries to keep it away from the batter's arc, on the shorter side. Tawhid throws his hands at the ball but misses.

16.5Drags the length back, on middle, Hossain shovels it to long on for one.

16.4Bowls a flighted delivery, full and on middle. Shamim plays the reverse straight to backward point.

16.3Looped up, outside off, a juicy half-volley. Tawhid gets closer to the line of the ball and smacks it to the right of the extra cover fielder. The substitute fielder, Chamika Karunaratne sprints to his left from long off and tumbles to prevent the boundary. Saves a run for his side. Three runs taken.

16.2Turning into the pads, on a length, Hossain flicks it to deep mid-wicket for a single.

16.1FIFTY FOR TAWHID! Superb knock from Hridoy and he will look to bat through to take his side home. Pushed through, on off, Hridoy goes on the back foot and taps it wide of cover for a single to get to his fifth half-century in T20Is. Just a thumbs up from Tawhid towards the dressing room.

15.6Low full toss, outside off, hit down to long on for a single.

15.5FOUR! Clever batting! Back-of-the-hand slower one, on a good length, outside off. Tawhid waits for the ball to arrive and guides it between short third and backward point for a boundary.

15.4A bumper, around off. Tawhid arches back and lets it go.

15.3On a length, on off, Shamim checks his shot and chips it past the outstretched right hand of the bowler. The ball rolls down the ground for a single.

15.2On a back of a length, on off, Shamim Hossain defends it out.

15.1A massive mix-up but Shamim Hossain gets away with it! Angling away, on a good length. Shamim firms the drive down the deck. The ball goes in the direction of Tawhid Hridoy at the non-striker's end. Hridoy fails to get the bat out of the way quickly and the ball deflects off his bat towards mid-wicket. Shamim sets off for the run as soon as he hits and is more than halfway through. He is sent back and the ball is picked up by Dunith Wellalage at mid-wicket. Dunith turns around and fires in a throw at the batting end but Hossain gets home with a dive. It would have been interesting had the throw hit.

14.6Slower and fuller, just outside off. Tawhid Hridoy goes for a big slog sweep but gets beaten on the turn.

14.5FOUR! Connects it this time, and connects it pretty well! Short, outside off. Tawhid Hridoy rocks back and cuts it firmly behind square on the off side for another boundary. This man is on a mission!

14.4Short and wide outside off, around the tramline. Tawhid Hridoy shuffles across the stump and tries to cut it away but misses the connection.

14.3SIX! Tawhid Hridoy is changing gears! Kamindu Mendis drags his length back, on middle and leg. Hridoy gets on his back foot, swivels, and pulls it over deep backward square leg for half a dozen.

14.2FOUR! Shot of authority from Tawhid Hridoy! Kamindu Mendis pitches it up, just outside off. Tawhid Hridoy plants his foot away from the ball and launches it up and over the cover fielder to get the boundary.

14.1Short, around off. Tawhid Hridoy steers it toward deep backward point for a couple of runs.

Shamim Hossain is in at number 5 for Bangladesh. Also, Kamindu Mendis has been introduced into the attack.

13.6OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! That is the wicket Sri Lanka was looking for, and look who has provided it! Wanindu Hasaranga bowls it flat and fuller, just outside off. Saif Hassan gets down on his one knee to heave it toward deep mid-wicket but gets it all wrong. The ball catches the top edge and balloons toward the short third man fielder. The catch is not as easy as it looks, as the ball is swirling in the air, but Dunith Wellalage keeps his composure and takes the catch close to his chest.

13.5Touch fuller, on the stump. Tawhid Hridoy pushes it away toward long off for one.

13.4FOUR! Oh...what a shot! The 50-run partnership comes up with this boundary! Drags his length back, just outside off. Tawhid Hridoy holds his stance and slaps it up and over the cover fielder for a boundary.

13.3Flat and tad fuller, on off. Saif Hassan goes for a big blow toward the leg side but doesn't quite get the middle of the bat. The ball rolls toward square leg off an inside edge and the batter gets a single.

13.2Drags his length back, just outside off. Tawhid Hridoy cuts it toward deep backward point for one.

12.2Short, wide outside off. Tawhid Hridoy tries to cut it but gets beaten.

10.2Full and on middle. Saif Hassan closes the bat face early and gets a leading edge that pops up wide of the bowler to his right.

10.1Short, on off. Tawhid Hridoy pushes it toward cover for a single.

DRINKS BREAK! A very well-contested first half of the chase and Bangladesh are probably just ahead as well. They have wickets in hand and Saif Hassan is playing a superb innings. However, Sri Lanka do have the bowlers to get them back in the game and will be hoping to slow the scoring rate down if they can't pick up wickets. This has all the makings of going down to the wire.

7.3SIX! This is simply outstanding from Saif Hassan! Tossed up, fuller, around off. Saif Hassan stays leg side of the ball, plants his front foot toward the delivery and uses his bottom hand to loft it over the sweeper cover fence for a biggie.

The ball balloons towards deep backward square leg off a top edge, where Pathum Nissanka judges the skier well and pouches it safely into his hands.

6.2Tossed up, outside off. Saif Hassan presses forward to drive it toward long off for a single.

4.5Beaten! This is pace on and it skids through, outside off. Saif looks to run it down but is beaten for pace.

4.4SIX! Excellent wristwork! Nuwan slips a full ball on the pads. Saif's head falls over to the off side as he looks to whip it away. Lifts his back leg whilst playing the pick-up shot and deposits it over deep mid-wicket for a six.

4.3Takes pace off and goes full, on off. Das backs away and goes over the top on the off side. Dunith Wellalage goes after it and hauls it in with a slide. Flicks the ball towards Kamil Mishara, who is backing him up. Three runs taken.

2.6Wide! 14 runs of the over with a ball to go. Nuwan goes short but takes pace off. Saif Hassan lets it through as the ball sails over his head. The ball bounces in front of the keeper and deflects off his pads towards short third. It allows the batters to take a quick run.

2.5Loopy slower one, on the fuller side, around off. Saif checks the drive and plays a bit uppishly in front of mid off.

2.4Missed out! Too straight from Thushara, on the pads, Litton tickles but fails to get it wide enough of the man at short fine leg. It goes straight towards the man there and Das crosses over for one.
