Sachin Tendulkar's record of scoring 2,278 runs in ODI World Cups is unlikely to be surpassed any time soon.

The ODI World Cup has always been the stage where the brightest stars shine the most, and it comes as no surprise that 'Little Master' Sachin Tendulkar leads the list for the highest runs scored by an Indian batter in the history of the tournament.

In fact, the diminutive genius, who retired from all forms of the game in 2013, is the highest run getter in WC history across all nations.

We take a look at the top 5 run getters for India in ODI World Cups:

1. Sachin Tendulkar - 2,278 runs (1992-2011)

Cricket fans will always find this legend's name in any batting record, be it in ODI World Cups or otherwise. And it's no surprise that one of the greatest to play the sport leads this list, as well. Tendulkar has amassed 2,278 runs for India in ODI World Cups - with a highest score of 152 (vs Namibia in 2003) - since his first game in the 1992 edition all the way until his final World Cup game in 2011. It'll be hard to break this record, seeing the gap between him and active cricketers is quite large.

2.Virat Kohli - 1,030 runs (2011-Present)

Virat Kohli has taken over the baton from Sachin Tendulkar as India's talisman and how! He is comfortably one of the greatest ODI batters of all time, along with Tendulkar, and all eyes will be on him in the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup. He is also the second-highest run getter for India in ODI World Cups with over a 1,030 runs from just 26 innings. His highest score of 107 came against Pakistan in the 2015 World Cup. How many more will he score in this edition? He is one of 2 active players on this list.

3.Sourav Ganguly - 1,006 runs (1999-2007)

One half of the famed opening duo of himself and Tendulkar, former captain Sourav Ganguly is third on this list with 1,006 runs from 21 innings. The stylish left hander formed an iconic partnership with Tendulkar, and has hit some big hundreds for India. His highest score of 183 against Sri Lanka, in the 1999 World Cup at Taunton, remains one of the most iconic batting performances in ODI World Cup history.

4.Rohit Sharma - 978 runs (2015-Present)

India's captain for this year's edition, Rohit Sharma is fourth on this list of highest run getters for Indians in ODI World Cups. The stylist right-handed opening batter was unlucky to miss out on the 2011 World Cup squad, which India hosted and won. He will definitely look to make amends this time around.

5.Rahul Dravid - 860 runs (1999-2007)

The current coach of the Indian cricket team rounds off this list with 860 runs to his name. The Wall, as he was known during his playing days, stayed true to his moniker with some solid performances. His highest World Cup score of 145 came in the same match as Ganguly's 183, when the duo stitched an epic 318-run 2nd wicket partnership that provded to be match winning. While he has never won the ODI World Cup as a player, he will hope to fulfill that ambition as a coach.
