Bomb hoax at Jodhpur railway station

August 29, 2012 / 11:19 IST

Jodhpur, Aug 28 (PTI) A bomb hoax created panic here as an anonymous caller threatened to blow up the Jodhpur railway station in the wee hours today, police said. SHO of GRP police station Anil Purohit said the city police control room received a call at 2:00 AM in which the unidentified speaker said a powerful bomb has been planted at the railway station. The caller said there is huge rush of the devotees of Baba Ramdev resting at the station and they will all die, the SHO said. "We received this information at about 3:00 AM and initiated a massive search of every nook and corner of the station along with the police and intelligence agencies by roping in a bomb and sniffer dog squad," Purohit said. Railway tracks, retiring rooms, parking lots, platforms, bridges, vendor stalls and bathrooms were evacuated, he said. The search operation lasted for over three hours and finally turned out to be a hoax call, he said, adding, "After ensuring that everything is fine, we heaved a sigh of relief and allowed passengers to come in." Police Commissioner Bhupendra Kumar Dak said a case had been registered under IT Act and details sent to Jaipur for further investigation. PTI COR MNS
