India's fourth largest software services firm Wipro has informed employees that it is implementing a compulsory hybrid work policy starting November 15, where staffers have to be present in the office at least three days a week.
The missive from Wipro, which went out on November 6, follows peers such as TCS and Infosys, who have mandated that employees work from office five days a week and ten days a month, respectively.
"Starting November 15, all employees must be present at their assigned office location for at least three days each week. This change aims to enhance teamwork, facilitate face-to-face interactions, and strengthen Wipro's culture," the mail from Wipro's Chief Human Resources Officer Saurabh Govil read.
Moneycontrol has a copy of the email and has confirmed that it was sent on November 6 by a senior Wipro executive.
The mail further said the change in policy would enhance communication, resolve issues promptly, foster team building, collaboration and will strengthen relations between colleagues.
The company, however, will customise this based on country, local legislation and agreements. For specific European countries, consultation with employee representation groups may apply to define guidelines.
Further, Wipro has warned employees that they would face consequences starting January 7, 2024 if they consistently fail to adhere to the new hybrid work policy.
"We firmly believe that accountability is essential for the success and growth of our organisation", the mail said.
Starting January 7, 2024, possible consequences may include: a loss of trust and credibility with managers and leaders, reduced performance and work quality, increased stress, conflicts, and dissatisfaction within teams. Additionally, disciplinary actions may be imposed by Wipro.
Wipro clocked the weakest growth among peers in the second quarter. With the company's profit and revenue declining and a weak Q3 guidance, analysts expect Wipro's FY24 topline growth to be one of the lowest among Tier-1 IT services firms which include TCS and Infosys.
