Persistent cold weather enveloped Delhi as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) after experiencing light to moderate rain coupled with thunderstorms across various parts of Delhi-NCR on February 1. As rain persisted through the night between January 31 and February 1, the minimum temperature surged to 12.3 degrees Celsius on February 1, marking a notable increase of four degrees above the seasonal average.
Reports indicate that various parts of Delhi, including Punjabi Bagh, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Delhi Cantt, Palam, Safdarjung, Lodi Road, and IGI Airport, saw light to moderate intensity rain.
There's a low chance of rain on February 2 as the influence of western disturbance is likely to diminish. However, another western disturbance is expected to affect the city starting from February 3. According to the weather department's forecast, the maximum temperature on February 2 is expected to be around 20 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 9 degrees Celsius.
The current weather situation, called the western disturbance, is likely to cause moderate to heavy rainfall in specific areas of North India until February 5. The IMD said that it has led to a cyclonic storm in north-western Rajasthan and nearby areas. Also, there's a chance of snowfall in some parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand due to this weather system.
From February 3 onward, the western disturbance is expected to impact northwest India, resulting in light to moderate rain and snowfall in regions such as Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
The Met department also mentioned that the western Himalayan region and certain parts of Uttar Pradesh are likely to see rainfall at one or two locations in the upcoming days.
Furthermore, there is a forecast of light to moderate rain in Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan on February 2. This pattern of sporadic rain is expected to continue from February 3 to February 4 in these regions.
As per Skymet Weather, there is a chance of light rain in northern Madhya Pradesh on February 4 and 5. Additionally, light to moderate rain is possible in Gangetic West Bengal, parts of Jharkhand, Odisha, South Tamil Nadu, and South Kerala.
The upper regions of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh could see light to moderate rain and snowfall. Dense fog is likely in certain areas of Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.
