Lonza Group AG, one of the world’s largest contract development and manufacturing organisations, has chosen Hyderabad as the location for its new Global Capability Centre (GCC), strengthening Telangana’s position as a fast‑growing global life sciences hub.

The Switzerland‑based company finalized its decision after months of evaluation and discussions with state leadership. A Lonza delegation met with Telangana’s Industries & Commerce Minister D. Sridhar Babu and Telangana Lifesciences CEO Shakthi M. Nagappan to formally communicate the plan.

Lonza, founded in 1897 and operating across more than 30 sites worldwide with nearly 20,000 employees, reported CHF 6.5 billion in sales and CHF 2.1 billion in Core EBITDA in 2025.

The company cited Hyderabad’s talent pool, quality infrastructure and supportive industrial ecosystem as key reasons for its selection.

“We are thrilled to welcome Lonza’s decision to establish its new centre in Hyderabad,” Minister Sridhar Babu said. “The city continues to stand out as the bright spot for global life sciences investments, driven by its strong scientific ecosystem, digital depth, and world‑class manufacturing capabilities. Lonza’s investment further strengthens Telangana’s position as a preferred destination for innovation‑led growth in the global biopharmaceutical industry.” He added that the centre has the potential to create a substantial number of jobs.

Shakthi Nagappan said the move adds to the momentum of Telangana’s rapidly expanding life sciences sector. “We are delighted that Lonza has chosen Hyderabad for this expansion. This decision marks another significant milestone in the continued expansion of Telangana’s life sciences ecosystem,” he said.

The new GCC is expected to generate high‑value employment and deepen Hyderabad’s integration into the global biopharma value chain. The state already hosts a growing concentration of multinational R&D, manufacturing and digital capability centres, and Lonza’s entry further strengthens its standing among global life sciences destinations. Lonza’s investment is the latest in a series of global bets on Hyderabad’s life sciences ecosystem, which has been expanding rapidly across biologics, vaccines, CRDMO services and global capability hubs. With this move, the company joins a cluster of international players leveraging the city’s technology base, scientific workforce and government support.
