Elon Musk’s Starlink announced key partnership with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Wednesday. This brings the global satellite internet provider on board as a user of Aadhaar-based authentication. With this integration, Starlink will verify its customers through Aadhaar Authentication, ensuring a faster, more secure, and seamless onboarding experience.
Aadhaar, regarded as one of the most reliable digital identity systems, will enable Starlink to complete Know Your Customer (KYC) checks in a paperless and efficient manner. This collaboration combines India’s trusted digital identity framework with cutting-edge satellite connectivity, paving the way for simplified customer verification and compliance with regulatory norms. Aadhaar authentication by users will remain voluntary, in line with existing regulations.
Starlink’s designation as a Sub-Authentication User Agency and Sub-eKYC User Agency was formalised in the presence of UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, Deputy Director General Manish Bhardwaj, and Starlink India Director Parnil Urdhwareshe.
As a cornerstone of India’s digital public infrastructure, Aadhaar has transformed both ease of living and ease of doing business. Its growing adoption, including advanced face authentication, underscores its convenience and reliability for Aadhaar holders.
By leveraging Aadhaar authentication, Starlink demonstrates how India’s digital infrastructure can support innovative service delivery models. The move highlights the robustness, scalability, and accountability of Aadhaar, while helping expand high-speed internet access to homes, enterprises, and institutions across the country.
