The Karnataka Revenue Department has cleared 6.05 acre of government land encroachment in Kattigenahalli village of Bengaluru rural district worth Rs 10 crore. Last week, the department cleared about 6.07 acre of encroachment worth Rs 25 crore in Yelahanka and Bagalur, according to officials.
The survey officials, along with revenue inspectors, surveyed the land and prepared a list of the names and areas of the RTC holders. The officers were directed to verify documents, identify encroachers and evict illegal encroachers from the land. The RTC (document of Rights, Tenancy, and Crops), commonly known as Pahani, is a significant land document that is given to the current landowner in Karnataka.
In July, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda told the Legislative Council that the government would set monthly goals for revenue department employees to reclaim encroached government lands.
According to the data, 14,660 cases for encroachment of 38,947 acre have been registered in the Bengaluru Urban district. In Bengaluru Rural district, about 1,292 cases for encroachments of 3,898 acres have been recorded.
