If your Aadhaar card has an outdated address, outdated phone number, or even a wrong name, you don't always need to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra for the correction. Some individual banks and public sector banks in India have been authorized by UIDAI to modify Aadhaar details at their branches. You can visit your bank, submit a form, provide the documents needed, and update your Aadhaar—hassle-free.

Some banks like SBI, HDFC Bank, Bank of Baroda, ICICI, Axis Bank and others have the facility for Aadhaar enrolment or updation at some of their branches. Not all branches do this facility, so it would be wise to check online or call beforehand.

What you can and cannot update at the bank

You would be able to change your name (with minor correction), birth date (once in a lifetime), address, gender, mobile number, and email ID at these bank branches. Biometric updations like fingerprint and iris scan can also be made—especially in case of children or seniors whose biometrics may have changed.

For significant modifications—such as a large name change, date of birth change beyond the permissible limit, or document updating for Aadhaar suspension problems—you might also need to go to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or a UIDAI centre.

Steps to update Aadhaar at a bank

Visit a bank branch Aadhaar update centre and ask for the Aadhaar update form. Fill the details you want to change and send self-attested photocopies of supporting documents, say, a proof of address or ID. Take your original documents with you for authentication. There is a small fee—usually ₹50—for the update facility.

Once you submit it, the bank officer will update your application, and you will receive an acknowledgement slip with an Update Request Number. You can use the URN to track the status of your update online. Your updates will usually reflect in 7-10 working days.

Why it's useful to update Aadhaar through bank branches

A trip to your bank to have Aadhaar renewed can save waiting time and queue time at official UIDAI offices. It's especially convenient if you're already a bank user and need fast assistance with document authentication. Since Aadhaar is being used more and more in combination with financial services—whether for KYC or for direct benefit transfers—it follows that the information on your card is up to date and accurate.
