The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on October 2 released the draft Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Rules, 2025 for public consultation, inviting comments until October 31.
The rules seek to operationalise the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, which was passed in the Parliament in August. The law provides a central framework for banning online money games while promoting e-sports and social games.
The draft rules lay out the framework for categorisation and registration of online games, promotion of permissible formats, powers and functions of the Online Gaming Authority of India, provisions for suspension or cancellation of registrations, grievance redressal mechanisms and imposition of penalties for non-compliance
MeitY has said feedback should be submitted in a rule-wise manner by October 31. “The submissions will be held in fiduciary capacity in MeitY and shall not be disclosed to any one at any stage, enabling persons to submit feedback/comments freely without any hesitation,” the ministry noted.
