
Eicher Motors shares on Wednesday emerged as the top gainer in the Nifty50 pack, rising nearly 7 percent after the company reported a 21.37 percent increase in consolidated profit after tax to Rs 1,420.61 crore for the quarter ended December.
The stock jumped 6.98 percent to Rs 7,805 per share on the NSE, hitting its 52-week high. On the BSE, it advanced 6.94 percent to Rs 7,803 per share, also touching its yearly peak.
Following the rally, the company’s market capitalisation rose by Rs 13,900.11 crore to Rs 2,14,035.69 crore.
Apollo Hospitals Enterprise was the second biggest gainer in the Nifty50 index, rising up to 4 percent.
Domestic information technology (IT) shares gave up their two-day gains, tracking weak US economic data and ahead of key jobs numbers later in the day.
Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys were among the major laggards in the Nifty50 pack, declining up to 3 percent.
Among the Sensex firms, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, HCL Technologies, Eternal, ITC, Tech Mahindra, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, UltraTech Cement, Titan, Adani Ports, Bajaj Finserv and Tata Steel were among the laggards.
On the other hand, State Bank of India, Maruti Suzuki India, IndiGo, Trent, Reliance Industries, NTPC, Bajaj Finance, ICICI Bank, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Hindustan Unilever, and Bharat Electronics Ltd were among the gainers.
In the Nifty smallcap100 index, PCBL Chemical and Laurus Labs gained up to 8 percent, while Nuvama Wealth Management and IFCI declined up to 5 percent.
In the Nifty midcap100 index, Supreme Industries and Astral rose up to 4 percent. Bharat Heavy Electricals and Premier Energies fell up to 6 percent.
Shares of Bharat Heavy Electricals dropped after the government announced up to a 5 percent stake sale through an offer for sale. The floor price for the OFS has been fixed at Rs 254 per share, nearly 8 percent lower than the stock’s closing price of Rs 276.10 on February 10.
The benchmark stock indices Sensex and Nifty settled on a flat note in a choppy session on Wednesday as gains in PSU banks and auto shares were offset by losses in IT stocks.
In a range-bound trade, the Sensex slipped 40.28 points, or 0.05 percent, to close at 84,233.64. During the day, it hit a high of 84,487.34 and a low of 84,081.25. The Nifty inched up 18.70 points, or 0.07 percent, to settle at 25,953.85.
