
The shares of Bharat Dynamics (BDL) jumped nearly 5 percent on December 24 after the government announced that DRDO has successfully completed the User Evaluation Trials (UET) of Next Generation Akash missile (Akash-NG) system.
The shares of the Indian defence major rose to Rs 1,496.70 apiece in the morning, the highest level seen by the stock in 12 sessions.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully completed the trials, the government said in a press release on December 23. During the trials, the missiles successfully intercepted aerial targets at different range and altitude including the near-boundary-low-altitude and long range, high altitude scenarios, it added.

"Akash-NG, equipped with indigenous RF seeker and propelled by solid rocket motor, is a potent system for ensuring air defense against different types of aerial threats. All the systems & sub-systems including the Multi Function Radar (MFR), Command and Control Unit, Missile Launch vehicle (MLV) etc. have been designed by various laboratories of DRDO with the help of Indian industries. The trials were witnessed by Senior Scientists of DRDO & User Reps from the Indian Air Force (IAF)," the Ministry of Defence said.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, Indian Air Force (IAF) and the entire defence industry for the successful completion of the trials. He said that the state-of-the-art missile system will further strengthen air defence capabilities of the IAF.
“Secretary DD R&D and Chairman DRDO has congratulated all the teams involved in the successful flight tests of Akash NG missile system and stated that the successful completion of the UET has paved the way for induction of Akash-NG into the Indian armed forces,” the ministry said.
Akash missile (Akash-NG) system is designed by DRDO and produced by Bharat Dynamics (BDL) and Bharat Electronics (BEL). BEL shares were trading in the green with marginal gains.
BDL shares jumped 13 percent in the past five days, but fell more than 19 percent in the past six months. The stock has increased over 31 percent in 2025 so far.
It currently has a P/E ratio of around 94.
