FIIs net sell Rs 250 cr in equities (prov)

FIIs were net sellers of Rs 35 crore in Index Futures while they were net buyers of Rs 154 crore in Index Options and net buyers of Rs 438 crore in Stock Futures.

Market cues     


The markets slipped triggered by selling in F&O. The Nifty ended 111 points lower at 5,752 adn the Sensex was down 351 points at 19,183.


Infosys dissapointed by its third quarter numbers and dragged IT Index down by 3.5%. Bank stocks saw fresh selling pressure, as Finance Minister indicated measures to tackle inflation, bank index was down over 3%. High weekly food inflation data at 17% impacted sentiments further.


Broader markets were weak. Select cement and pharma stocks held on to their gains. Cement stocks rallied on speculation of price hike.


Institutional action


FIIs were net sellers to the tune of Rs 250 crore while DIIs were net buyers of Rs 242 crore in the cash market on January 13, as per provisional data available on NSE. FIIs were net buyers of Rs 554 crore in the F&O market.

FIIs were net sellers of Rs 35 crore in Index Futures while they were net buyers of Rs 154 crore in Index Options and net buyers of Rs 438 crore in Stock Futures.


Market cues


NSE F&O Open Interest was up by Rs 5,620 crore at Rs 1.46 lakh crore.


HDFC, Godrej Properties, Hindustan Media Ventures, REI Agro and Zee Entertainment will declare results today.


F&O cues


Total Nifty Futures' Open Interest was up by Rs 497 crore while total Nifty Options Open Interest up by Rs 5,123 crore. Stock Futures added 29 lakh shares in Open Interest (OI).


Nifty Futures ended at 4 points premium versus 11 points. Nifty Open Interest Put-Call ratio was down to 0.94 versus 1.01.


Nifty Puts added 12.7 lakh shares in Open Interest whereas Nifty Calls added 67.5 lakh shares in Open Interest. Nifty 5900 Call added 19.8 lakh shares in Open Interest.


Nifty 5800 Call added 19.2 lakh shares in Open Interest and Nifty 5700 Call added 9.3 lakh shares in Open Interest.


Nifty 5700 Put added 6.88 lakh shares in Open Interest, Nifty 5600 Put added 5.4 lakh shares in Open Interest and Nifty 5300 Put added 1.6 lakh shares in Open Interest. However, Nifty 5800 Put shed 4.2 lakh shares in Open Interest.


Global cues


The US markets ended with modest losses after a choppy session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended down 23.5 points at 11,732. The Nasdaq Composite was down 2 points at 2,735 and S&P 500 Index fell 2.2 points at 1284.


Commodities declined despite weakness in dollar. Macro economic data was mixed; weekly jobless claims went down at 4.45 lakh versus expected 4.15 lakh.
