The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has revised the time for consumer inflation and industrial production data releases to 04:00 PM from 05:30 PM.
“To provide more time on the day of release to access CPI & IIP data, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) has decided to revise the release time for the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and IIP from 5.30 PM to 4.00 PM on 12th of every month,” it said in a release on November 5.
The October release of CPI and IIP is scheduled for November 12.
“The new release time aligns with the closing hours of major financial markets in India, ensuring that CPI data dissemination does not interfere with active trading. This adjustment also adheres to MoSPI's commitment to transparency and accessibility in data dissemination,” the ministry further stated.
Besides consumer inflation, the government also releases monthly wholesale inflation data, collated by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The government has been trying to transition to producer price index.
Besides, it is also in the process of revising the base year of consumer price index.
Moneycontrol had earlier reported that the ministry would likely fix 2022-23 as the base year for CPI and other data revisions.
The new CPI series is also likely to include a larger basket of items, including online services.
