Competition Commission of India (CCI) chairperson Ravneet Kaur has said the “poaching of AI staff” by large firms is a “global concern” and the anti-trust body will "look" into it if required.
“There are concerns on poaching of AI staff by big digital platforms of small startups. This is a global concern. If it's found in India, it will be looked at by CCI,” Kaur said during a CII event on December 11.
With artificial intelligence emerging as the new tech frontier, companies are racing to bag a bigger share of the AI pie and are willing to pay a premium for talent.
The CCI's role is to provide a “level-playing field” in the Indian market. “Industry must get timely decisions else inorganic growth like mergers, acquisitions can be held up,” she said, adding mergers and acquisitions are looked at as facilitative and competition panel is not there to obstruct it.
