Blue Star plans to invest Rs 15 crore this fiscal in a new manufacturing plant in Ahmedabad to make refrigeration products like deep freezers, bottle coolers, milk and water coolers.

The company currently manufacturers refrigeration products at its plant in Bharuch, Gujarat, which was set up over three decades ago. The new plant in Ahmedabad will augment the current production capacity of these products "significantly", Blue Star said on Friday.

"We anticipate the refrigeration products business to be a significant growth driver of the company in the years to come and it was necessary to enhance the production capacity of these products," said Satish Jamdar, the company's MD.

The new plant is currently awaiting statutory approvals and the company hopes to begin manufacturing towards the end of the current fiscal, he said.

Blue Star shares were trading down 0.7% at Rs 158.60 on NSE in afternoon trade.
