On Janmashtami, there’s nothing more heartwarming than seeing little ones dressed up as Krishna, complete with a peacock feather crown and a mischievous smile. Their adorable appearance captures the essence of the festival. But behind that charming look, there can be a few hidden challenges that might cause discomfort for your child.

You may have the best intentions when dressing your child as Krishna, aiming to make them the star of the celebration. However, in your enthusiasm, are you compromising their comfort and well-being?

Here are 6 common mistakes to avoid to ensure your child looks as adorable as ever while staying happy and comfortable:

Fabric matters: The traditional dhoti and kurta combo can be uncomfortable if not made from the right fabric. Synthetic materials can irritate the skin, especially during the warmer months, leading to rashes or itching. Opt for soft, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen, which are gentle on the skin and keep your child cool and comfortable throughout the day.

Be careful with makeup: Applying makeup on your child’s delicate skin may seem like a great idea, but many makeup products contain harsh chemicals that can cause allergic reaction or irritation. Instead, choose natural or hypoallergenic makeup products, and if possible, avoid makeup altogether. Let your child’s natural charm shine through.

Less is more: Heavy or sharp jewelry can be uncomfortable and even dangerous for young children. Metal jewelry can cause skin irritation, and heavy pieces might hurt them during play. Go for lightweight, child-friendly jewelry, preferably made from soft materials like fabric or plastic. Avoid anything that might snag or cause discomfort.

Mind the footwear: Krishna’s look is often completed with traditional footwear, like mojaris or sandals. However, ill-fitting or hard-soled footwear can make it difficult for your child to walk and might even lead to blisters. Choose comfortable, well-fitted shoes with soft soles that allow your child to move freely and comfortably.

Too many photos/videos: Capturing memories is important, but constant photo sessions can be tiring and stressful for your child. Being under the spotlight for too long can cause them to become cranky or exhausted. Limit the photo sessions, and make sure they have plenty of breaks to relax and enjoy the festivities.

Enough rest: Amid the excitement of dressing up and celebrating, it’s easy to overlook your child’s need for rest. A tired and cranky child won’t enjoy the festivities, no matter how great they look. Make sure they get plenty of rest before and after the event to keep them in high spirits.
