The tales of Lord Krishna, often intertwined with his love for food, are a cherished part of Janmashtami celebrations. From stealing butter to enjoying sweet treats, Krishna's food adventures have always captivated hearts.

Lord Krishna, renowned for his divine antics, was famous for his fondness for dairy products and sweets. As a child, he was known for sneaking butter from neighbours and gopis, symbolising his playful spirit and love for simple, wholesome foods. His preferences offer a perfect guide to adding nutritious options into your own diets.

Here are five healthy foods that Krishna adored, each with benefits that are as delightful as they are nourishing:

Milk: Krishna’s love for milk is legendary. One story recounts how he would sneak into the cow shed at night, tiptoe past the sleeping cows, and drink milk directly from their udders. Milk, rich in calcium and protein, supports strong bones and muscles. It’s also a part of a balanced diet, promoting growth and health.

Butter: Krishna’s fondness for butter is a central theme in many stories. One famous tale describes how he would steal butter from his neighbours, leading to the nickname, ‘Makhan Chor’ or ‘Butter Thief.’ Butter provides essential fatty acids for brain health and improved nutrient absorption.

Sugar candy: Mishri, or sugar candy, was also a favourite treat of Krishna. In one story, Krishna’s mother, Yashoda, would give him mishri as a reward for his good behaviour. Though high in sugar, mishri can be used in moderation for its natural sweetness and digestive benefits.
