  • Vastu Shastra principles boost positive energy in your home
  • Use harmonious colors, natural light, and declutter spaces
  • Plants, wind chimes, and airflow boost well-being and balance

Often, people think adopting design and interiors according to the principles of Vastu Shastra, the ancient Indian science of architecture, may be difficult, but in reality, it is quite easy. Doing so increases the positive flow of energy into your home and promotes a sense of well-being.

Just a few adjustments, like rearranging furniture, introducing paintings, and using happy, bright colours, can help you live in harmony with your natural environment and bring balance into your home and life. After all, the five elements key to Vastu design include prithvi (earth), jal (water), agni (fire), vayu (air), and aakash (space).

Use a harmonious colour scheme

While classic neutrals continue to be the top choice for living rooms, adding a pop of colour through a wall or a couch helps. It makes the space come alive, boosts mood, and stimulates creativity. While work areas should have vibrant and bright colours, relaxed pastels are ideal for bedrooms. As per Vastu, using natural light helps purify homes and enhance positive energy.

Keep centre of the home clutter-free

The layout and arrangement of rooms matter in Vastu, as they impact the energy flow. The central part of the home should, thus, be kept open and free of clutter to promote circulation and positive energy. Furniture should be arranged accordingly, yet retain a sense of symmetry and visual harmony.

Spatial orientation

Each direction holds specific energy in Vastu. According to its principles, the main entrance of the house should face the east, north, or northeast for optimal energy flow. Similarly, living rooms should be in the northeast, southeast, or northwest direction. If your home faces the wrong way, then the arrangement of furniture and decor should be done suitably to negate its effects.

Add plants, wind chimes, and paintings

Plants bring nature into homes and energise the surroundings. However, not all plants are suitable. Pick ones that bring positive energy. Wind chimes are also known to clear stagnant energy. Some paintings depicting nature, abstract art, and spiritual symbols are also considered lucky.

Keep the house well-ventilated

A well-ventilated house that allows for free movement improves energy. Ensuring your house is clutter-free and throwing open the windows also help. A clean house with airy rooms and fresh air are considered to be good for the well-being of its members.
