  • Vedic astrology: Avoid buying iron, sharp objects, oil, black clothes on Saturdays.
  • Buying these items on Saturday may cause conflict, delays, or financial strain.
  • Avoid buying brooms on Saturday to prevent household disputes and instability.

Traditional beliefs exist for a good reason, and one of them is avoiding the purchase of a few items on a Saturday. In Vedic astrology, the day is governed by Shani Dev (Saturn), who is known as the god of justice. While many people devote themselves to his worship, certain objects shouldn’t be bought on the day, as they invite conflict or strain.

Iron objects

Purchase of iron objects such as hammers, locks, and machinery should be avoided on a Saturday. It is believed to cause delays and obstruct work and money flow. If you have bought an object on a Saturday, it’s best to bring it home the next day, or even better, make the purchase some other day.

Sharp objects

This one is a popular belief where the purchase of knives, scissors, or razors is said to invite conflict with loved ones. It creates emotional turbulence and is considered to be a bad omen. Thus, it’s not advised to buy sharp objects and weapons on a Saturday.

Oil and fuel

On Saturdays, some even warn against buying cooking oil, petrol, or other lubricants in bulk. Oil is linked to Saturn; mustard oil is used in the puja rituals, so it carries weight and meaning on that day. For certain households, this may mean that buying oil or fuel in bulk can increase ongoing expenses or financial heaviness or burden.

Black clothing

Buying black clothing is not considered to be suitable on this day, as it is said to increase Shani’s wrath and cause harm. Culturally also black is associated with darkness, sorrow, and grief. Thus, purchase of anything black or even wearing the colour on Saturday should be avoided.

Brooms

Even brooms shouldn’t be bought on a Saturday as they are believed to sweep away energy from the house, whether positive or negative. It can cause domestic disputes and instability in the house. Waiting till the midweek to purchase cleaning tools causes no harm, so those are the safe days.
