Holi 2024: Start your post-Holi eye care routine with a thorough cleanse. Use clean water to gently wash away any lingering colour particles

Once you are done playing with dry and water colours on Holi, it's essential to care for our skin and eyes post-celebrations. The festival's exuberance often leaves our skin and eyes vulnerable to irritation and damage. From protecting our skin from harsh chemicals to ensuring our eyes are free from colour residue, these simple yet effective tips can help maintain healthy skin and vision.

Here are some essential post-Holi eye and skin care tips to keep in mind for a vibrant and safe recovery after the festivities, suggested by Dr Dinyar Workingboxwalla, Skin Guru, Beauty by BiE.

How to protect your eyes

You eyes bear the brunt of stray colours. "Start your post-Holi eye care routine with a thorough cleanse. Use clean water to gently wash away any lingering colour particles," Dr Workingboxwalla recommends. It's crucial to avoid vigorous rubbing, which can worsen irritation. "Instead, a gentle pat with a soft towel is recommended," he adds.

Nourishment for fatigued eyes

After the cleanse, it's time to pamper the eyes with hydration and nourishment. The expert suggests opting for under-eye gels or creams with soothing ingredients like cucumber extract or hyaluronic acid. "Apply a small amount under the eyes and gently massage in," he advises. This helps to hydrate the delicate skin, reducing puffiness and rejuvenating tired eyes.

How to protect your skin

While our eyes recover, our skin also requires special attention after the exuberance of Holi. Dr Workingboxwalla shares his expertise on restoring the skin's natural balance post-celebration.

Cleansing away the colours: Playing with colours can leave your skin feeling dry and rough. "Choose a gentle cleanser to remove colour and dirt without stripping natural oils," Dr Workingboxwalla advises. Follow up with a hydrating moisturiser to replenish lost moisture.

Hydration is key: To restore the skin's vitality, hydration is paramount. "Drink plenty of water to flush out toxins and keep the skin hydrated from within," Dr Workingboxwalla recommends. Adding hydrating face masks or serums to the skincare routine can provide an extra boost of moisture and nourishment.

Soothing and protecting: For those exposed to harsh chemicals or abrasive colours, soothing the skin is essential. Dr Workingboxwalla suggests products with ingredients like aloe vera or chamomile to calm irritated skin and reduce inflammation. "Avoid harsh exfoliants or scrubs immediately after Holi," he warns, "as they can worsen skin sensitivity."
