  • Rujuta Diwekar warns against "health-washing" trendy snack swaps.
  • Processed "healthy" foods can still harm health, wallet, and environment
  • Real change means addressing habits, not just choosing foods with clean labels

Do you also enjoy foods that promise to be “healthy” but are in fact a compromise? The wellness world has a way of turning every snack into a moral decision. Suddenly, a chocolate bar becomes a sin, while a protein bar is good for your health.

Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, who also guides actress Kareena Kapoor, recently took to Instagram to share 10 red flags including protein bars replacing chocolate and broccoli chips replacing potato chips.

Diwekar reveals that in the name of healthy eating, people are simply dressing up old cravings in new packaging and calling it progress. In her latest post, Diwekar calls out what she describes as the modern phenomenon of “health-washing”, when people swap one guilty pleasure for another, more socially acceptable version, and expect it to magically transform their wellbeing.

In a tone that’s direct, she sends a clear message saying, if your lifestyle has become a series of substitutions rather than real change, you’re not improving your health, you’re just shifting the illusion. “The pattern is familiar, you’re still craving the same foods, still feeling the same hunger, and still battling the same fatigue, but now you’re doing it with a clean label and a smile.”

She adds, Be it ‘healthy’ chips or chocolate bars, the more food products (processed) you eat, the more weight you’re likely to gain, especially around your stomach. It can also hurt your pocket and contribute to environmental damage.

10 red flags, shared by Diwekar, which show you’re “health-washing” your diet

  • You now do spice shots in the morning and vodka shots at night. It’s not discipline. It’s imbalance.
  • You’re still eating a bar of chocolate, but this time it’s a protein bar. The wrapper changed, not the habit.
  • You’ve been cheating with chips at night, but now they’re made of meat or broccoli. The crunch is still the same; the problem is still there.
  • You’ve lost weight, but also lost sleep, work efficiency, and happiness. That’s not health. That’s a trade-off.

  • You now believe only packaged drinks and yogurts contain “good bacteria”. Nature didn’t stop being beneficial overnight.
  • You’re waiting for the clock to hit two. Your body’s hunger is being ignored, delayed, or punished.
  • Your cravings are through the roof. That’s your body begging for real nutrition, not trendy substitutes.
  • You’re still bloated, angry, and hungry
  • The “healthy” label hasn’t fixed the underlying issue.

  • You’ve become obsessed with being “health-watched”. Health is now a performance rather than a lifestyle.
  • You’re convinced carbs or protein-rich snacks are harmless if they’re “healthy”
  • Chips are still chips, whether they’re made of broccoli, meat, or quinoa.

Diwekar’s warns that the planet and your body both suffer when you pretend that the label alone makes food wholesome. If you’ve swapped one processed snack for another and still feel unwell, it’s time to stop the health trend and start listening to your body again.
