Oprah Winfrey is one of the few celebrities who have spoken openly about taking the GLP-1 drug for weight loss. Now she is out with a new book ‘Enough’ where she has shared her journey for those with similar struggles. Talking to TODAY, she also didn’t hesitate to share one of the main side effects she faced from the medication.

While most people who take GLP-1 drugs like Wegovyand Zepbound suffer from gastrointestinal issues, Winfrey said that she “never had nausea or diarrhea,” but constipation did cause her trouble. However, she found a remedy that worked well for her.

“I finally figured out, for me, what the right combination of magnesium and water is. I have to drink a lot of water...I have to have a gallon of water a day,” she told TODAY. And the trick is to drink all the water before 4 pm, otherwise it disturbs her sleep.

Drinking fluids is known to help keep the stool soft and the intestines smooth and flexible, meanwhile taking magnesium citrate helps pull water into the intestines and softens the stool, making it easier to pass. Along with water, it supports regular bowel movements.

In her book Enough, Winfrey has shared her struggles with weight loss, adding how she got past the “shame of not being able to manage my weight.” It has been written in collaboration with Dr Ania M. Jastreboff, an endocrinologist and professor at the Yale School of Medicine. She is known for her work in obesity for over two decades, and dives deep into diet fads and weight loss drugs.

Summarising her goal of writing the book, Winfrey shares in Enough: “Recognising once and for all that obesityis not a moral failing, that it’s a chronic, relapsing disease – that has been life-changing for me. I did not get the memo 10 years ago, but now I know and I want to spread that information to as many people as I can.”
