A healthy diet plays a crucial role in your fitness journey. While consuming whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats is a part of it, NHS doctor Amir Khan shared three foods that he loves and includes in his diet most days of the week. They are not just delicious but also have many health benefits that can improve your overall health.
Unsurprisingly, the first on Dr Khan’s list was berries. He recommended eating blackberries or blueberries, just like him, on most days of the week. He called them his “favourite” because they contain antioxidants that help reduce inflammation in the body. “Studies have shown that berries have been linked to good heart health, good brain health, good gut health, and support a healthy immune system,” he said. They are also convenient, as you don’t have to get them fresh — frozen works well as a substitute and is essentially the same thing.

They won’t disappoint you as they taste great as well. “They have loads of fibre in them, are a great source of antioxidants that berries have as well, and despite being sweet, they can help manage healthy blood sugars too.”
Most people might forget nuts during the day but they are loaded with nutrients essential for your body. Dr Khan said, “Nuts are ace. I have walnuts at least every single day because they’re full of plant omega-3 fatty acids, which are great for my heart and brain but all these nuts have fibre, polyphenols, and are great for gut health. They're really energy dense, so they keep me full for long and stop me from reaching for those chocolates. If you’re allergic to nuts, go for seeds. Things like flax and chia seeds are super good for you as well.”
In the end, Dr Khan clarified that these 3 foods are part of a balanced diet that contains many other things, but they are the ones he consumes routinely for their excellent health benefits.
