4 ways Indians are redefining health beyond diets and gym memberships

There’s been a marked shift in how Indians perceive health today. It’s no longer just about restricting oneself to diets and workouts, but about going beyond them to take care of overall well-being through treatments that combine both traditional and modern approaches.

  • Sustainable daily habits are prioritized over intense diets and workouts

For a long time, staying healthy meant sticking to diets and intense workouts. But this is fast changing. Many are now opting for a more sustainable lifestyle, prioritising both modern and traditional treatments to improve overall well-being.

Dr Rohan Goyal, MBBS, Founder and Regenerative Medicine Specialist at Nuvana, shared four ways in which Indians are now going beyond conventional methods for a happier, healthier life.

Wellness as preventive, not just curative

Indians are now realising to take care of themselves before a problem arises. Dr Goyal said, “They are investing in not only regular health checkups but also practices and routines that focus on preserving cell function, enhancing performance recovery, improving quality of life, and reducing future health risks.”

Returning to traditional treatments

“There has been a growing and renewed interest in time-tested traditional practices such as acupuncture, yoga, and therapeutic massages. These treatments are valued not only for physical relief but also to restore balance in the body and calm the nervous system,” he added. Many Indians are combining these with modern treatments to get a more holistic approach towards their health.

Lifestyle habits over intense fitness phases

In 2026, health is increasingly seen as something built through meaningful, repeatable behaviours rather than dramatic transformations. Instead of quick dieting plans which are too rigid or intense workout regimes, people are prioritising sustainable daily habits.

Dr Goyal noted, “Walking meetings, mobility work, better posture, digital detox breaks, and consistent sleep schedules are becoming the centre point to modern wellness.”

Openness to regenerative and advanced therapies

There has been a shift in the medical space in India. “Although long overdue, Indians are now realising that there is no single approach that can benefit their health needs, but a combination of traditional and modern approaches that will treat them holistically.

This has fuelled an interest in science-backed regenerative and recovery treatments. Rather than viewing modern treatments as a last resort, many now see them as part of a proactive strategy to age better and stay active longer,” he concluded.
