Bonu Komali, a 21-year-old science student and part-time YouTuber, was found dead on Monday at her rented house in Hyderabad, Telangana. Just before her death, she sent her mother a "I love you so much" text.
Komali, a resident of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, had been living alone in a flat for almost 11 months. She was in the city to attend a private college in Hyderabad to pursue a bachelor's degree. She also made personal and lifestyle films for YouTube.
According to NDTV, the police said that in the early hours of Monday, Komali texted her mother, B Satya Varalakshmi, who works in Kuwait, stating, "I love you mummy so much" and requesting her to look after her younger brother.
Later, her phone was discovered turned off. Her mother notified a friend after several calls went unanswered, and the friend came to the flat in the afternoon.
Police officer Ch Venkanna said, “At around 3 pm, when repeated knocks drew no response, we broke the latch and found her hanging from the ceiling fan.”
Near the scene, a saree and a ladder were found.
The officer said, “Preliminary investigation suggests emotional distress over a prolonged relationship dispute.”
Police claim that Komali and a fellow YouTuber, a 27-year-old software engineer, had been dating for three years before splitting up.
According to investigators, Komali had made an earlier attempt at suicide some six months prior.
