Yami Gautam has offered a rare, personal glimpse into filmmaker and husband Aditya Dhar’s creative temperament and the quiet bond that defines their relationship, at a time when his latest directorial, Dhurandhar, continues its historic box office run.
In a recent conversation with Humans of Bombay, Yami reflected on Dhar’s working style, calling him one of the most composed and respected directors she has encountered. “I’ve never seen him lose his cool,” she said, adding that his authority on set comes from calm leadership rather than pressure. “He commands respect, he doesn’t demand it. And that is something everyone around him feels.”
The actor first met Dhar on the sets of Uri: The Surgical Strike in 2019, the film that transformed his career. While their professional equation began there, Yami revealed that their personal connection grew during the film’s promotions. “That’s when we really spoke,” she recalled. “You’re listening to each other answer questions, and suddenly there’s one answer that mirrors your own. That’s when you realise the wavelength matches.”
Their relationship, she said, unfolded without grand gestures or dramatic proposals. “There was no filmy moment. We just knew we wanted to get married,” Yami shared. Their families were aligned, and the decision felt natural rather than staged.
The couple tied the knot in 2021 in an intimate ceremony in the hills, a choice Yami says reflected who they are as people. Even without the constraints of the pandemic, she believes they would have chosen the same quiet setting. “For me, nature’s blessings meant everything. We wanted the wedding to be about rituals, culture, and tradition,” she said, adding that she wore her mother’s saree and did her own hair and makeup to honour that sentiment.
Yami also shared an anecdote from the Uri set that captures Dhar’s character off-camera. She recalled him offering his chair to a crew member who was sitting on the floor during lunch. “No one even thinks of things like that,” she said, noting how crew members consistently spoke warmly about him.
As Dhurandhar races past Rs 900 crore at the box office, Yami sees the film as more than just a 2025 success story. Co-produced by Dhar’s banner B62 Studios, she believes the film’s impact will stretch well into the future. “It’s not a farewell gift of 2025,” she said. “It’s a welcome gift for 2026, and a film that will be remembered for many years.”
Dhurandhar is expected to premiere on OTT in January, with reports suggesting a sequel is already in motion for a March 19, 2026 release.
