Rimi Sen, once a familiar face in early-2000s Bollywood comedies and action entertainers, is back in the news for a very different reason. The actor, best remembered for films like Hungama, Dhoom, Phir Hera Pheri and Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, has reportedly moved to Dubai and is now working as a real estate agent in the UAE's competitive property market.
Born in Kolkata, Sen (birth name Subhamitra Sen) entered showbiz through modelling before transitioning to films. She began acting work in the early 2000s and soon became associated with mainstream commercial cinema. Her Hindi breakthrough came with Priyadarshan's Hungama (2003), which helped her land a steady run of big-banner projects.
Through that decade, she appeared alongside some of the era's biggest stars, often playing the charming, girl-next-door presence in plots driven by chaos, mistaken identity and comic timing. Dhoom (2004) gave her massive visibility thanks to the film's pop-culture footprint, while Phir Hera Pheri and Golmaal kept her firmly in the comedy lane.
But the same success also boxed her in. In interviews, Sen has spoken about feeling typecast in comedies, saying she sometimes had the role of "furniture" despite being part of huge hits. As the industry shifted and newer faces arrived, her appearances became less frequent, and she gradually stepped away from regular Hindi film work.
Her public profile spiked again when she joined Bigg Boss Season 9 in 2015, a move that reintroduced her to viewers beyond cinema and gave audiences a more candid sense of her personality. After the show, she remained mostly off-screen, surfacing only occasionally for interviews and public events. Her filmography from that period is still widely watched on TV and streaming, keeping her name alive for new audiences today.
Now, according to recent reports, she has reinvented herself away from the camera. Sen is said to be working in Dubai real estate, and she has spoken about liking the clearer rules of the profession there. In one report, she is quoted saying the market "functions smoothly" because there is "discipline," suggesting that structure itself made the shift appealing.
What this really means is simple: Rimi Sen's story is not just a nostalgia headline, it is a career pivot. Bollywood fame can be loud, but it is rarely stable, and roles for women in certain commercial formats can narrow fast. For many actors, the most radical move is choosing steady work over uncertain visibility, and building a second act on their own terms.
