When Abhishek Bachchan once addressed the persistent divorce rumours surrounding his marriage with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, he did not mince his words. In a candid conversation that has since become a reference point, the actor spoke openly about the price of living under constant public scrutiny and the emotional toll of fabricated speculation.
Speaking to Peeping Moon, Abhishek acknowledged that gossip is almost unavoidable for public figures. “If you’re a public figure, people are going to speculate about every little thing. Whatever rubbish has been written is absolutely false. None of it is based on fact; it’s just wrong and intentionally hurtful,” he said, firmly shutting down the rumours.
What stood out was how Abhishek framed the timeline of public intrusion into their lives. “Before we got married, they were guessing our wedding dates. After we got married, they started deciding when we’re separating. It’s all nonsense,” he remarked. Drawing a clear line between public noise and private reality, he added, “She knows my truth, I know hers. We return to a loving, grounded family and that is what truly matters.”
When asked if the constant divorce speculation affected him personally, Abhishek was unequivocal. “No. If there was even a shred of truth, perhaps it would. But there isn’t. I won’t tolerate fabricated stories or falsehoods about my family or me,” he said, making it clear that while criticism comes with fame, misinformation about loved ones crosses a line.
The comments resurfaced at a time when rumours about a rift in the Bachchans’ marriage had gained traction online. Much of the speculation was driven by isolated public appearances and social media chatter, including Abhishek liking a post about “grey divorce,” a term often used for couples over 50 separating after long marriages. However, the couple quietly countered the narrative through their actions rather than statements.
Over the past year, Abhishek and Aishwarya were seen together at multiple family and public events. They attended their daughter Aaradhya’s school function as a family, celebrated her birthday together, and were also spotted at a star-studded wedding reception. In April, the couple, along with Aaradhya, attended a family wedding in Pune, with visuals from the event quickly going viral and easing much of the speculation.
On the professional front, Aishwarya was last seen in Ponniyin Selvan: II, reprising her role as Nandini. Abhishek, meanwhile, appeared in the Amazon Prime original Be Happy. Even as their careers continue to evolve, Abhishek’s throwback remarks remain a reminder that behind the headlines, some truths are far simpler and far more personal than gossip allows.
