Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay's much awaited film Jana Nayagan, which is going to be his last film before entering politics, has been stuck with CBFC and now fellow actor and politician Ravi Kishen has said that he will definitely raise this issue in the Parliament.
Jana Nayagan, which was originally slated to release during Sankranti, January 9, has been made on a huge budget of Rs 500 crore. And with no release date in sight, producers are worried. The makers also told Madras High Court that Amazon Prime Video had also threatened to sue them if the release date was not announced at the earliest.
BJP MP Ravi Kishan has now said that he will definitely raise the issue of film's release in the Parliament
Ravi, who has also worked in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada films, told Screen, that he was 'a phone call away'.
“I am hearing about this from you. Otherwise, I have not received any complaints. But being a parliamentarian, cinema people can approach me directly. They can write to me or call me. If any film is stuck, I can definitely call the censor board,” he said.
But Ravi Kishan also said that there is a lot of workload and censor board also had to check a lot many things before giving a certificate to any movie.
"What could be the reason for delays is that they have to scan multiple things in a film. They have to ensure the language is appropriate, that no religious sentiments are hurt, and that real-life incidents are not misrepresented. A lot goes into this process. The real question is how many screenings the panel members can realistically conduct in a single day,” he added.

“Through you, I want to convey this to my family, the film industry. They can come directly to me and contact me. All this is happening while our government is in power, so it is my responsibility to take care of my fraternity. They don’t need to worry," said Ravi.
“I will personally speak with the Information Ministry. Parliament will be in session soon, and I will make sure to discuss how we can improve the censor board by making it bigger, better equipped, and faster in the certification process so producers can release films on time,” he further told the publication.
Before Jana Nayagan, even Sivakarthikeyan starrer Parasakthi also received its certificate only a day before release. The makers were reportedly asked to make 25 changes in less than 10 hours before the slated release. The film didn't have a good box office run.
Talking about Jana Nayagan, the Madras High Court set aside the single bench order on Jana Nayagan's release. Earlier, the single bench had allowed the release of the film with U/A certificate.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and KVN Productions, the producer of Thalapathy Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan, have been engaged in a legal battle for most of this month.
A fresh hearing took place on January 20 at the Madras High Court, where Chief Justice MM Shrivastaava and Justice G Arul Murugan heard the matter and reserved their order, leaving the film’s release uncertain.
The division bench of the Madras High Court said that the single bench should have given CBFC time to file counter affidavit.
It was when the censor board said that it did not get time to file a counter-affidavit. (With PTI Inputs)
