Agni Dev Chopra, the 27-year-old cricketer and son of acclaimed filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and film critic Anupama Chopra, has moved to clear the air after his name surfaced on the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 player registration list, sparking widespread buzz and controversy online. What began as a curious listing on the Pakistan Cricket Board’s official portal quickly snowballed into intense speculation across cricket and entertainment circles.

According to the player registration document released ahead of the PSL 2026 auction, Agni’s name appeared alongside other overseas associate players from the United States — including a base price of PKR 600,000 and classification as a left-handed batter and off-spinner. That listing, combined with his strong first-class record and emerging reputation, ignited discussion about whether he might become one of the first players with ties to India to enter Pakistan’s top T20 league.

However, Agni took to Instagram Stories to categorically deny the claims. Calling the reports “fake and misleading,” he clarified that he has not registered for the PSL auction and that the rumours circulating in his name have no basis. "I would like to clarify that I have not enrolled for the PSL. I remain fully focused on my cricket journey in the USA and my long-term career goals. I request everyone not to fall prey to misinformation."

His mother, Anupama Chopra, later reshared the clarification on her own social media to reinforce the message.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Agni holds US citizenship, which makes him eligible to play in leagues around the world. Before shifting his focus overseas, he made a strong impression in Indian domestic cricket, featuring in prestigious tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His breakthrough came during the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy Plate season, where he finished as the highest run-scorer, earning the Madhavrao Scindia Award from the BCCI.
