Bhansali himself, along with his niece Sharmin Segal, who portrays Alamzeb in the series, faced significant criticism from viewers. Adding to the controversy, a clip of Sonakshi Sinha roasting Sharmin in a Netflix video featuring Munawar Faruqui has now gone viral.

A clip circulating on social media features Sonakshi Sinha playfully teasing Sharmin Segal, quipping, “Sharmin ko har din set ka wrap jaldi karwana tha. Raat main jaldi so jaati thi, agle din school bhi toh jaana tha. Sharmin din bhar jitne Gen Z alfaaz ratt jaati hai, kaash kisi din set pe aane se pehle apne dialogues bhi yaad karke aati.” (Sharmin always wanted to wrap up the set early. She'd sleep early at night because she had to go to school the next day. Sharmin would memorise all the Gen Z slang during the day; I wish she'd also remembered her dialogues before coming to the set.)

In a swift comeback, Sharmin Segal retorted, “Sanjeeda Heeramandi main Waheeda bani hain, is baat pe ek sher arz karna chahti hoon. Waheeda ke naseeb main batua hai khaali, Fareedan (Sonakshi’s character) se kya dosti karogi voh khud hai jaali (fraud)? Choti behen hoke dushman ke saath haath mila liya. Yeh karke, apni khud ki aukaat gira di.” (In 'Heeramandi,' Sanjeeda is playing Waheeda; allow me to recite a verse in light of this. Waheeda's purse is empty, why would she befriend Fareedan (Sonakshi's character), she's the real sham? Joining hands with the enemy despite being a younger sister. However, amidst the backlash, actor Shruti Sharma, who portrayed Sharmin's maid in the series, stepped forward to defend her colleague, offering support amidst the controversy.
