In a statement to People, Abbasi acknowledged that he “made a mistake” and apologised immediately.

Ali Abbasi, director of The Apprentice, has addressed allegations that he groped an A-list actor at a Golden Globes party, admitting to making an “over-familiar gesture” but denying any sexual intent. Reports suggest that Abbasi has parted ways with his US-based talent agencies, Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and Management 360, following the accusation. However, he insists that his exit was unrelated to the incident.

In a statement to People, Abbasi acknowledged that he “made a mistake” and apologised immediately. He explained that he had a friendly relationship with the actor and, upon seeing him at the Golden Globes party, playfully slapped him on the rear.

“I quickly realised I had misjudged the situation. I apologised to him on the spot, and the following day, I made sure my apology was reiterated through my representatives,” he said.

Reports suggested that the actor involved was also represented by CAA, fueling speculation that Abbasi’s agency split was a direct consequence of the allegation. However, the director refuted these claims, stating, “The suggestion that I was dropped by my representation due to this interaction is false. My decision to part ways was a long-term career decision.”

Despite the controversy, The Apprentice continues to gain recognition during the awards season. The biographical drama, which explores Donald Trump’s early business years and his mentorship under lawyer Roy Cohn, has earned Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for lead actor Sebastian Stan and supporting actor Jeremy Strong.

Abbasi concluded his statement saying, “I made a mistake, I apologised, and have learned a valuable life lesson. I hope the focus stays on the achievements of The Apprentice and its incredible cast and crew.”
