A fresh controversy has erupted on the high-stakes reality show The 50 after contestant Siddharth Bhardwaj made a remark about Bebika Dhurve that viewers labelled insensitive and unnecessary.

The comment, comparing his first impression of her to a “beauty parlour wali didi” instead of a contestant , has gone viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism from fans and netizens who called it disrespectful.

During a recent episode of the reality competition, which pits 50 celebrities against one another in strategic and physical challenges inside an isolated palace, Siddharth and other contestants were discussing the dynamics of the game and their rivals’ attitudes.

Siddharth Bhardwaj remarked, "Wo hume yeh kehti rehti hai ki usne pichle show mein kaise ladke rulaye hain. Wo kehti hai ki usne logon ko famous kiya hai."

Another contestant, Digvijay, added that the previous show ran because of her presence.

In the conversation, Siddharth said that when he first saw Bebika,“Ek baar bataun, maine jab usse pehli baar dekha, contestant nahi lagi mujhe. Mujhe laga beauty parlour wali didi bulayi hai.”

The comment quickly caught attention, with many viewers saying it was a thinly veiled personal commentary rather than relevant to the competition itself.

Reactions on social media were fierce, with users calling out Siddharth for what they saw as a dismissive and judgmental remark that unnecessarily targeted Bebika’s appearance rather than her gameplay.

One wrote, "Misogynistic to the core .. just shows the mentality."

Another added, "So you are saying beauty parlour wali ladkiya kuch nahi hoti. They might just be amazing business women."

Many viewers defended Bebika, highlighting her confident presence and performances on the show — including in tasks where she proved her skills and determination, earning praise from allies and fans alike.

Others argued that such remarks lower the tone of the programme and detract from the competitive spirit that The 50 aims to promote.

The 50 continues to stream on JioHotstar and airs on Colors TV at 10:30 pm.
