James Gunn's eagerly awaited 2025 Superman reboot has had a significant impact at the Indian box office. The movie, which starred David Corenswet in the iconic role of Superman/Clark Kent, debuted in theatres on July 11, 2025, and had a great first weekend.
Despite stiff competition from other major international releases such as Brad Pitt’s high-octane racing drama F1 and the sci-fi spectacle Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman (3D) has managed to soar above them all, drawing large audiences across formats and languages.
According to early trade estimates, as per Sacnilk, the superhero film has amassed a total of ₹ 25.50 crore (India net) over its first three days.
With strong word-of-mouth and high occupancy levels reported in major urban centres, the film is expected to maintain momentum into the coming week.
The 2025 film not only reintroduces Superman to a new generation but also serves as the launchpad for DC Studios’ “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” — the studio’s ambitious new cinematic universe. The storyline centres on Superman as he strives to reaffirm his role as humanity’s protector in the face of rising mistrust, catalysed by a sinister plan devised by billionaire Lex Luthor.
Brad Pitt’s F1 put up a decent show with Rs 21.4 crore but couldn’t match the box office dominance of the caped superhero.
Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced are among the film's outstanding ensemble cast members. A new era of storytelling for the adored DC character is being ushered in with this, the second reboot of the Superman movie franchise.
James Gunn's Superman is headed for box office success in India and beyond, thanks to encouraging early numbers and a favourable reception from the public.
