Veteran actor Shakti Kapoor has finally addressed the chatter around why his daughter Shraddha Kapoor appears less frequently on screen than many of her contemporaries. Speaking candidly on the podcast The Powerful Humans, the 73-year-old actor dismissed rumours of a lack of work and instead offered a straightforward explanation rooted in Shraddha’s personality and career choices.
Laughing off the speculation, Shakti Kapoor said his daughter is “very stubborn” when it comes to selecting projects.
He clarified that her limited filmography has nothing to do with fewer offers. “She is very stubborn,” he said, describing Shraddha as a performer who prefers quality over quantity. “She is a fine actor and likes to work only in the best films.”
According to Shakti Kapoor, Shraddha’s selectiveness also comes with a price tag. “She does very few films. She chooses the best films and charges higher fees than most of her counterparts,” he revealed.
Taking names while making his point, the actor added, “She charges more than these actors,” referring to Alia Bhatt and Ananya Panday.
He was particularly amused by suggestions that Shraddha might be struggling to find work. “She is not getting work?” Shakti asked sarcastically. “She is very stubborn and does what her heart says. She has certain ethics and follows them strictly,” he explained, emphasising that his daughter operates on her own terms.
Shakti Kapoor also spoke warmly about their personal bond, painting a picture of a close-knit and honest family relationship. “We share a great relationship. Sometimes we fight, sometimes we plan holidays, sometimes we discuss films,” he said.
Expressing pride in her journey, he added, “I am very proud of her—her performances are outstanding. She is a very fine actor.”
Shraddha Kapoor’s career choices came under renewed scrutiny following the blockbuster success of Stree 2 last year. The horror-comedy went on to become the highest-grossing female-led Indian film, earning over Rs 857 crore worldwide. The film’s massive performance, nearly five times the earnings of its 2018 predecessor, firmly re-established Shraddha’s box office pull and sparked fresh conversations about her relatively selective career path.
Despite her success, online debates have continued to question why she appears less frequently on screen. Shraddha has worked in around 18 films over a 15-year career since her Bollywood debut in Teen Patti in 2010. In comparison, Alia Bhatt, who debuted in 2012, has completed roughly 20 films, many of them major hits, while Ananya Panday, who entered the industry in 2019, already has 12 releases to her name, with another hitting theatres this week.
