Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his Bandra home by an intruder, Shariful Islam Shahzad, a Bangladeshi national. Shahzad, accused of stabbing Saif multiple times during an alleged robbery attempt, is currently in police custody until January 29, 2025.
As reported by Indian Express, Mumbai Police are probing the potential involvement of accomplices in the attack. In their remand application to the Bandra court, they stated, "During investigation, it has been strongly suspected that the arrested accused may have additional accomplices, and an inquiry regarding this is underway with the arrested accused."
Police have recovered CCTV footage of the accused at Saif's residence and other locations in Mumbai. They aim to perform a facial recognition test to establish the suspect's movements and identity. The weapon used in the attack, along with the suspect’s clothing, SIM card, and bag, has been seized. Forensic tests are underway to analyse blood samples and the clothes of Saif Ali Khan, witnesses, and the accused.
The suspect has reportedly been uncooperative in revealing the weapon's source. Police are also investigating the origin of the mobile phone, SIM card, and a fake Aadhaar card found on him, bearing the name Vijay Das. Officers are also searching for the shoes worn by the suspect during the crime, which could provide further evidence.
Saif Ali Khan sustained multiple stab wounds, including injuries to his thoracic spine. Following emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital, the actor was discharged after six days and is currently recovering.
The court emphasised the gravity of the case and noted that it will be tried in a sessions court. With the investigation still ongoing, the focus remains on uncovering additional evidence and identifying any accomplices who may have aided in the attack.
