The investigation into the firing outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Mumbai residence has taken another serious turn. On February 17, five accused linked to jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang were produced before the MCOCA court after their earlier police custody ended. The court has now remanded all five back into police custody until February 23, according to ANI.

Unknown assailants fired four rounds outside Shetty’s residence in Juhu on January 31. The incident sparked immediate panic in the area.

Police teams rushed to the spot, secured the location, and began collecting ballistic evidence. Heavy security was deployed around the residential tower as the investigation intensified. Soon after, a post circulating on Facebook claimed responsibility on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

According to ANI, those produced before the court include Aditya Gaikki, Siddharth Yenpure, Samarth Pomaji, Swapnil Sakat, and Asaram Fasale. They were arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch from Pune on February 1. During the court proceedings, Swapnil Sakat reportedly alleged that his statement had been coerced by the police and that he was forced to sign documents.

Police have registered a case of attempted murder and, over the course of the probe, have arrested a total of 11 individuals. Six of them were reportedly nabbed from Rajasthan earlier this week. Investigators revealed that Asaram Fasale is believed to have supplied the weapons used in the firing. He had allegedly been associated with the Bishnoi gang for nearly four years while working as a garage mechanic.

Crime Branch officials suspect that Fasale was influenced by Shubham Lonkar, who is considered the alleged mastermind in the Baba Siddiqui murder case. According to investigators, Fasale handed the weapons to Swapnil Sakat on Shubham’s instructions. The weapons were then allegedly passed on to an unidentified shooter who carried out the firing.

Mumbai Police have been working continuously on the case. On February 14, they recorded the statement of Rohit Shetty’s manager. As part of the investigation, the Crime Branch recreated the firing sequence by retracing the accused’s scooter route from Pune to Mumbai.

The incident comes amid rising security concerns in Bollywood. Recently, actor Ranveer Singh reportedly received a WhatsApp voice note demanding Rs 10 crore in ransom. Actor Ayush Sharma also received a threat email allegedly linked to the same gang. The developments have raised serious concerns about celebrity safety in the city.
