Video game development, especially at the highest level, is built on locked doors, NDAs and carefully timed reveals. Few studios embody that culture more than Rockstar Games, whose upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI is one of the most anticipated releases in entertainment history.
Yet behind the noise and speculation, a quiet and deeply emotional story has captured the attention of fans worldwide.
In December 2025, Anthony Armstrong, a UI integrator at Ubisoft Toronto, took to LinkedIn with a heartfelt message. It was not written as a publicity stunt or a demand, but as a last, hopeful reach for kindness.

Anthony Armstrong explained that a close family member, who had spent years fighting cancer, had recently been given devastating news. Sharing the post publicly, Anthony Armstrong wrote, "To any of my connections at Rockstar Games and Rockstar Toronto, or anyone else that may be able to help. A member of my family who has been battling cancer for years just recently got the worst possible news, he was given 6–12 months to live."
The fan, Anthony Armstrong said, lived near Rockstar Games’ Oakville studio and had grown up with the Grand Theft Auto series.
With Grand Theft Auto VI facing several delays, the fear was simple and heartbreaking: he might never get to play it. Aware of the realities of game development, Anthony Armstrong made it clear he respected Rockstar Games’ need for secrecy, adding, "I absolutely understand the need for secrecy at this point of development, so at the very least an NDA is probably needed."
The post resonated instantly. It spread across LinkedIn and beyond, drawing support from developers, fans and industry figures.
Weeks later, Anthony Armstrong shared an update that offered quiet hope, writing, "The CEO of Take-Two reached out and we are just waiting to hear from the Rockstar team to discuss this further." Not long after, he returned with a final message: "We spoke to them today and got great news. That’s all I can really say, but thank you all from the bottom of my heart." Soon after, the thread disappeared, likely due to confidentiality agreements.

This would not be the first time Rockstar Games has shown compassion.
In 2018, the studio reportedly allowed a terminally ill fan to play Red Dead Redemption 2 early, a gesture remembered fondly by the community.
While some online voices question the story’s authenticity, others see it as a reminder that even within massive corporations, individual acts of humanity still exist. For someone facing stage four cancer, that kindness could mean everything.
