A throwback interview of Kannada film star Yash, now at the centre of Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups’s social media controversy, has gone viral as fans revisit his past stance on choosing film scenes with personal comfort in mind. The resurgence of the old clip comes as the teaser for Toxic, featuring Yash in an intimate scenario, has ignited debate and even attracted a formal complaint to the Karnataka State Women’s Commission over obscene content.

In the interview conducted years before Toxic was announced, Yash appeared on a Kannada talk show hosted by Ramesh Aravind and spoke candidly about the limits he places on his acting choices. “I won’t do any movie scenes that I wouldn’t feel comfortable watching with my parents,” he said in the conversation, a statement that underscored a personal moral boundary he once set for himself.

That interview has resurfaced amid the current Toxic uproar, where the film’s teaser has drawn sharp reactions for its visually bold and intimate scenes. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Women’s Wing, in its complaint to the Commission, claimed that visuals in the teaser are obscene and explicit and could negatively impact social norms regarding women and children, urging authorities to take action.

While some social media users have pointed to the contrast between Yash’s earlier words and the current promotional material as a contradiction, others have defended the actor, noting that artists evolve and creative contexts can change. Supporters argue that what may have once been a personal standard could shift with age, experience and the demands of varied roles and storytelling.
