
Streaming platform Amazon Prime Video has announced the global streaming premiere of Vaa Vaathiyaar, a lively Tamil adventure-comedy that pays tribute to legendary actor M.G. Ramachandran (MGR).
Vaa Vaathiyaar stars Karthi and Krithi Shetty in the lead roles, supported by a seasoned ensemble cast that includes Sathyaraj, Raj Kiran, Anandraj, Shilpa Manjunath, Karunakaran, G.M. Sundar, Ramesh Thilak, Nivas Adithan, Vadivukkarasi, Nizhalgal Ravi, and Thenappan P.L.
Beginning January 28, Vaa Vaathiyaar will be available for streaming on Prime Video in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.
Amazon Prime formally announced the news on X in a post: a new superhero in a new avatar is coming to meet you #VaaVaathiyaarOnPrime, New Movie, Jan 28."
The Tamil movie will be available in five languages - Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Vaa Vaathiyaar is expected to be out after 12 am.
The film revolves around the story of a devoted MGR fan who raises his grandson, Ramu (played by Karthi), believing the boy shares a unique bond with the iconic star.
As Ramu grows up to become a cheerful and spirited police officer, unforeseen circumstances place his grandfather’s life in danger, compelling him to shoulder new responsibilities and evolve in unexpected ways.
Featuring lively performances and energetic music composed by Santhosh Narayanan, the film delivers an engaging mix of adventure and comedy, making it an ideal watch for the entire family.

It opened with a decent Rs 1.65 crore, saw a good jump on day two, but then the numbers started dipping each day after. It wrapped its first week with about Rs 8.45 crore net in India
Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy and produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja under the Studio Green banner, the film blends humour, emotion, and a strong sense of nostalgia.
