
After years of anticipation, the Tamil Nadu government has finally announced the State Film Awards for the period spanning 2016 to 2022, recognising and celebrating cinematic excellence across multiple years. The long-awaited announcement has brought cheer to the film fraternity, honouring some of the most impactful performances in Tamil cinema.
Among the standout winners, National Award-winning actress Keerthy Suresh was a major highlight. She won the Best Actress award for her strong performance in the 2017 Tamil action-thriller Paambu Sattai. Directed by Adam Dasan, the film featured Keerthy as Veni, a character that connected with audiences and showed her emotional depth and screen presence.
The official award ceremony is set for February 13 at Chennai’s iconic Kalaivanar Arangam. The event will likely be a grand, star-studded occasion, where Keerthy Suresh will receive her well-deserved honor in front of the industry’s biggest names.
This recognition adds another important achievement to Keerthy Suresh’s impressive career. She previously won the National Film Award for Best Actress at the 66th National Film Awards for her unforgettable role as legendary actress Savitri in the 2018 Telugu biographical drama Mahanati.
On Thursday, the Government of Tamil Nadu officially unveiled the much-awaited State Film Awards for the years 2016 to 2022, honouring excellence in cinema and television. Several leading stars were recognised for their outstanding work, with actors such as Vikram, Dhanush, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Suriya, Arya, Karthi, Sai Pallavi, Parthiban, Keerthy Suresh and Jyothika among the prominent winners. They received Best Actor (Male) and Best Actor (Female) honours for their respective performances across different years.
On the professional front, Keerthy Suresh continues to have an exciting lineup of projects. She is gearing up for Akka with Yash Raj Films, a high-octane venture that is already creating buzz for its pan-India appeal. She will also be seen sharing screen space with Vijay Deverakonda in Rowdy Janardhana, a collaboration that promises to bring intense energy to the screen.
Additionally, Keerthy is set to return to Malayalam cinema with Thottam, where she stars opposite Antony Varghese, popularly known as Pepe. An untitled project with filmmaker Praveen S. Vijaay and actor-director Mysskin is also in the pipeline, hinting at a film driven by intense storytelling.
