Actor Sivakarthikeyan's recently released film, Parasakthi, landed in controversy after Tamil Nadu Youth Congress accused the film of distorting historical events involving the Congress. They have demanded a ban on the film.
Parasakthi, which focused on anti-Hindi demonstrations and the student revolution of the 1960s, opened in theatres on January 10. The censor board made 25 edits to the film, labelling some parts as imaginary.
Arun Bhaskar, senior vice president of the Tamil Nadu Youth Congress, claimed that Parasakthi is a "pro-DMK movie" that takes a "pro-Tamil, anti-Hindu stand."
For those who have watched the movie and told me there are historical inaccuracies that show congress in a poor light. Here you go. @thearunbhaskarpic.twitter.com/LEfySpMWyk— Mohan மோகன் (@MKumaramangalam) January 12, 2026
He said the movie was a "complete fabrication" meant to discredit Congress and erroneously implied that only Hindi was allowed in post office forms.
Arun Bhaskar took to his X handle and shared the official statement of the Tamil Nadu Youth Congress, calling for a ban on the film.
He objected to the depiction of the 1965 language controversy, writing, "In 1965, the Congress government never officially announced that post office forms must be filled only in Hindi across all states. This is a complete fabrication deliberately created to malign our party," he said.
Arun Bhaskar claims that after Sivakarthikeyan’s character meets with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to oppose the imposition of Hindi, the film depicts her in a negative manner.
“Indira Gandhi never visited Coimbatore on February 12. This meeting did not happen at all. She was not in Coimbatore on that day,” Bhaskar said, dismissing the scene as fictional.
He objected to another scene in which the film depicts a blazing train plunging in front of Indira Gandhi, calling it wholly unfounded.
Arun Bhaskar also criticised the film's climax, stating that it shows actual photos of K Kamaraj, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and Indira Gandhi while accusing the Congress of shooting and killing over 200 Tamil civilians in Pollachi.
He claimed, “This is utter nonsense and has no connection to reality. The film falsely shows Indira Gandhi visiting Coimbatore on February 12, 1965 – a visit that never took place. It then fabricates scenes of a train being set on fire in her presence and portrays her as accepting signatures against Hindi imposition. None of these events ever happened in history.”

He added, “There is not a shred of evidence to support such a serious allegation. We strongly condemn this film. Parasakthi is a deliberate distortion of historical facts and should be banned.”
He called for the production team of the movie to publicly apologise and remove all such scenes right away. If the movie was not removed and the production team did not issue an apology, Bhaskar threatened to take severe legal action.
The statement concluded with Arun Bhaskar calling on party members to protest - "I call upon all Congress workers to raise their voices against this injustice."
Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela play major roles in Sudha Kongara Prasad's film Parasakthi.
