The buzz around Parasakthi continues to stay strong, even as false reports briefly threatened to cloud its overseas reception. Starring Sivakarthikeyan and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sudha Kongara, the ambitious period drama is one of the most anticipated Tamil releases of the Pongal 2026 season.

In the past few days, social media was abuzz with claims that the film’s premiere shows in France had been cancelled due to extremely poor bookings. Some posts alleged that only 16 tickets were sold out of 905 seats, leading to the supposed cancellation of screenings. The rumours spread quickly, triggering debates in fan circles and even drawing comparisons with the overseas performance of other big Tamil releases.

However, the film’s official overseas distributor, Friday Entertainment, has now firmly denied these claims. In a strongly worded clarification shared on social media, the distributor called the reports completely false and misleading. The statement confirmed that the Parasakthi premiere and scheduled shows in France are going ahead exactly as planned. It also warned that legal action would be initiated against individuals or platforms spreading fake news about the film.

The distributor’s post read, “False information is currently being spread regarding the Parasakthi film premiere (AVP). The event is going ahead as planned. Appropriate action will be taken against those spreading this misinformation. Please rely only on official sources.” The message made it clear that there has been no cancellation due to bookings and urged audiences not to trust unverified online claims.

Parasakthi has generated significant curiosity due to its scale and subject matter. Reportedly mounted on a budget ranging between Rs 150 crore and Rs 250 crore, the film is said to be inspired by the life of student leader M. Rajendran, who lost his life during protests. Described as a powerful narrative rooted in student activism, patriotism, and socio-political conflict, the film marks a major tonal shift for Sivakarthikeyan, who has steadily expanded his range in recent years.

Originally scheduled for release on January 14, the film’s theatrical debut was preponed to January 10, 2026. The makers, Dawn Pictures, confirmed the change in December, citing sustained demand from exhibitors and a strategic move to maximise its festive box office potential during Pongal.

Apart from Sivakarthikeyan, Parasakthi features an ensemble cast including Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela, who makes her Tamil debut with the film. With official clarifications now out in the open, the focus returns to what truly matters: the film’s release and the audience response it is set to receive worldwide.
